Tip of the day: We get asked a lot by clients , “Wow, we never knew how much work goes into building a retaining wall”, remember folks 80% of what your paying for is underneath the ground (footer row, base pad), or behind the wall (sheer cut), the 20% you can visually see is the cherry on top. Ask your contractor questions like , What’s the footer row depth? , how many wall drains, filter sock over French drain tile?, what’s the sheer cut depth? , what are you using for a soil separator?, are you using drainage aggregates (washed #57s)?, what is being used to achieve the specified compaction rates?, are you using Geo -Grid, Geo-Fabric? Ask the questions since these are the major factors that make up a retaining wall that will stand the test of time and longevity. If they can’t answer these types of questions then move on and find a qualified wall builder in your area. #SouthernLandscape&Design
